Shortly before 9 a.m. on Monday, November 28, the firefighters intervened at Nantes-Atlantique airport. They took care of a site employee, an employee of the service provider GIP Aviation, who had seriously injured his hand.

According to the first known elements, it would be an accident “during an operational bird scaring phase” (an operation that aims to repel birds, editor’s note), indicates the departmental fire and rescue operations centre.

The 49-year-old man was injured when his detonating flare pistol exploded in his hand. He was transported to the hand clinic in a medical vehicle.

In the wake of this incident, which also mobilized the SMUR and members of the gendarmerie, the weapon was neutralized by the mine clearance service.

An investigation is underway to determine the precise circumstances of this accident and to try to understand why the gun exploded.
