The production of the French series “Deep” began in Nantes, but the sets and costumes of the fiction are causing a lot of reaction among the city’s inhabitants…
The filming of a French series for the OCS platform is calling for attention in Nantes. For the purposes of this fiction entitled Deep, two large banners were hung on the front of the famous Graslin theater. Problem, swastikas appear on the banners… and extras dressed as SS soldiers are walking around the square, waiting to pass in front of the camera!

The Deep series for OCS will take place in 1941. Here, the public will be able to follow the story of a team recruited for an extremely perilous mission: to steal a new type of submarine from the Nazis. Fast. Unprecedented firepower. And above all undetectable. A mission that could well change the course of the war… Especially because the submarine is in fact a time machine!
Our colleagues from 20 Minutes Nantes went to the area around the shooting and collected reactions from passers-by. One thing is clear: this staging leaves absolutely no one indifferent! Between uneasiness and a duty to remember, local residents each have their own opinion.
“It’s important not to forget, especially right now“
Johanna Rolland, the mayor of Nantes, warned her fellow citizens in advance who have already noticed that Nazi signs have appeared in the city. To our colleagues, director Aurélien Molas declares that reporting the shooting is “justified“, while specifying to carry out “a work of memory” through this project.
Paul Schmitt, the producer of Deep, declared to the newspaper 20 Minutes: “Even for us, who have had our heads on the handlebars since the start of filming, it’s impressive to see soldiers in uniform or these flags. But it’s important not to forget, especially right now.“
To control the dissemination of certain images and to avoid misinformation on social networks, Nantes residents were also asked to “not to photograph SS soldiers in close-up“. Without context, the consequences of these possible photos would undoubtedly inflame the web.
