The sulphurous Napster (in the 2000s) announced that it was launching into NFTs, blockchain and crypto-currencies.

The group will soon create its own crypto, simply called… “NAPSTER”.

Napster arrives in NFT mode

The older ones will no doubt remember that Napster was the pioneer of P2P file sharing, launched in 1999. The service was quickly used to share music files in MP3 format, so much so that it was withdrawn two years later, following various copyright infringements and multiple complaints filed by, among others, the band Metallica. In 2022, Napster is making a comeback… in the NFT and cryptocurrency market.

Indeed, if Napster still has a musical bent and presents itself today as a legal and paid streaming platform, the company will also launch into crypto-currency, with a token baptized in all sobriety “NAPSTER”. The latter will be available soon via the Algorand blockchain. In particular, it may allow the purchase of services and NFTs, or even access to premium features on the platform.

Recall that Napster was recently bought by an investment fund specializing in crypto-currencies (Hivemind), but also by Algorand, the origin of the eponymous blockchain. According to Emmy Lovell, CEO of Napster: The Web3 offers a chance to deepen, expand and improve the music ecosystem. »
