“Narcissist rich guy”: Anonymous hackers threaten Tesla boss Musk

Anonymous hackers threaten Tesla boss Musk

Among other things, Elon Musk’s tweets about cryptocurrencies prompt the hacker group Anonymous to settle accounts with the Tesla boss. His statements “destroyed life”, it says in a video. Musk’s dealings with his employees are also criticized.

The hacker group Anonymous has a weakness for drama, their message to Elon Musk begins with a rumble of thunder. In a video that, among other things, about the Twitter profile “YourAnonCentral” was spread, a spokesman for the collective is aimed directly at the head of the US automaker Tesla. “This is a message from Anonymous for Elon Musk,” says the person wearing the Guy Fawkes mask, the group’s most famous symbol. What follows is a settlement with the 49-year-old entrepreneur – including a threat.

Anonymous also refers to some tweets from Musk, which in the past caused strong fluctuations in the price of crypto currencies such as Bitcoin. “It seems,” says the spokesman, “as if the games you played with crypto markets destroyed lives”. Musk has long been an advocate of digital currencies, but recently turned away from them, referring to their poor environmental record. Among other things, he withdrew his announcement that Tesla would accept Bitcoin as a means of payment. A tweet from Musk recently caused price turbulence in which he combined the name of the currency with the emoji of a broken heart – plus the image of a couple discussing their separation. “Millions of retail investors have really counted on their crypto profits to make their lives better,” said the Anonymous video. His tweets, which caused the market value to drop significantly, showed “a clear disregard for the average working person”.

In the four-minute video, the hacker group continues to refer to Musk not only as a “narcissistically rich guy”. Anonymous also threatens the Tesla boss, at least subliminally. “You may think that you are the smartest person in the room,” says the speaker in a distorted voice. “But now you’ve found your master.” What exactly is meant by this remains open, so far the group had targeted its attacks on websites, for example those of Scientology or Master Card.

The video is more specific with regard to further allegations against Musk. His employees at Tesla have been “exposed to unbearable conditions for years under your command”. Children in lithium mines would also mine raw materials for Tesla batteries. There are many other companies working on space exploration and electric vehicles, but Musk is “the only CEO who has gained cult following through shit posting and trolling on social media.” Also, much of Tesla’s income comes not from auto sales, but from “government subsidies – the sale of carbon tax credits for your clean energy innovation.” The Tesla boss himself has not yet commented on the allegations.
