One day, after for years forbidding her to leave her dungeon, Wolfgang Přiklopil allowed Natascha to go upstairs to shower. Nevertheless, to benefit from this “privilege”, the young captive had to make a huge sacrifice: “He had decided that I should shave my head, she remembers, it scared me a lot because I loved my hair.” A way for Přiklopil to exercise psychic torture on the little girl, but also to prevent anyone from suspecting her presence in her house. “I was not allowed to leave hair upstairs when I went up to shower, explains Natasha Kampusch, now 35, so i decided to cut my own hair because i couldn’t stand the thought of someone else doing it. He had decided that if I wanted to go upstairs, I had to do this.”

And this condition is far from the only one that Wolfgang Přiklopil imposed on Natascha. Indeed, after several years of captivity, the little girl was also forced to change her first name. “He said that I was no longer allowed to pronounce my first name and that I had to choose a new one. He wanted me to be unrecognizable and to forget my first name myself. I didn’t have to think about my name anymore. So I took the calendar and looked at the names of the days close to my birthday. That’s how I chose.” Thus, for several years, Natascha had to answer to the name “Bibiana”. Her ordeal fortunately ended on August 23, 2006, the day she managed to escape the vigilance of her captor and flee. Since then, “Bibiana” has become Natascha again and proudly wears her long blond hair.
