Asked by the magazine Vanity Fair, Nathalie Baye returned to her beginnings in the cinema. She notably evoked a not very happy memory with a famous American actor.
This Wednesday, April 27, moviegoers were able to find Nathalie Baye in the film Downton Abbey 2: A New Eraa project that follows the famous series. French actress then plays the role of the Marquise de Montmirail. On the occasion of the promotion of this new feature film, the actress granted an interview to the magazine Vanity Fair in which she delivered on her debut at the cinema, in the 70s. Thus, she told how she was engaged in the film Brief encounter in Parisdirected by Robert Wise, famous for his films such as star trek or The melody of happiness.
During this film project, Nathalie Baye plays with Jane Fonda’s brother: Peter Fonda. And the least we can say is that the actor has deeply marked the French actress: “I especially remember that he was odious” ! So when the journalist from Vanity Fair asks her if she regrets her debut, Laura Smet’s mother lets go: “Not at all! The world is changing, the world is moving, it’s normal… Even if sometimes, of course, it was better before”. A first experience at the cinema which did not discourage her.
Nathalie Baye: “I loved the few international shoots I did”
Indeed, Nathalie Baye has acted in many French but also international films, which forced her to speak English: “It takes a lot of work, even if I manage. And I loved the few international shoots I did”she explains. As a reminder, the French actress was the first to play in a film directed by Steven Spielberg, Stop me if you canalongside Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio: “I’ve always been spoiled.” An experience that she enjoyed since she later found herself in Laurence Anyways in 2012 and Just the end of the world in 2016, alongside Marion Cotillard and Vincent Cassel.
