France 3-0 Wales
In a week the national team will open their European Championship campaign with the game against Wales. On Wednesday, the Welsh team will complete a test match around Tottenham star Gareth Bale. The opponent: title favorite France. There is also a spectacular comeback: Real striker Karim Benzema (33) is back. He has not shown up for the French since October 2015. The reason for this is said to have been the publication of an intimate video. The act is now statute-barred, which is why France coach Didier Deschamps is calling the 33-year-old back. The return failed in a playful way. Benzema misses a penalty after 27 minutes and doesn’t really get going. His colleagues do better – Mbappé and Co ensure a sovereign 3-0 victory against the first group opponent of the Swiss national team.
The goals: 34th Mbappé 1-0, 47th Griezmann 2-0, 79th Dembélé 3-0.
Germany – Denmark 1: 1
This game is also marked by a very special return. In November 2018, Müller and Hummels were last on the field for the German national team. Around two and a half years later, they are making their comeback – Löw has brought the 2014 world champions back into the team for the European Championship. They are also in the starting line-up against Denmark. Hummels directs the game behind, Müller occasionally puts pinpricks on the offensive. You get involved in the game quickly, but neither of them is brilliant. Because Germany is unlucky twice and only hits aluminum, the game ends in a draw. The Champions League heroes Havertz, Werner and Rüdiger are not yet in the DFB squad. The same applies to city players Gündogan.
The goals: 48th Neuhaus 1: 0, 71. Poulsen 1: 1.
England – Austria 1-0
He’s a new cup winner and he’s allowed to come to the EM! With his Austrians, FCL playmaker Louis Schaub (26) has to give a little gas until the tournament starts. The team of coach Franco Foda lost the test against the English 0: 1. Austria has long been harmless. Arsenal star Bukayo Saka (19) consequently brings the Three Lions into the lead after the break. After Schaub’s substitution after over an hour, the Austrians turn up a bit. Marcel Sabitzer then fails narrowly, he only hits the crossbar. So ultimately it stays at 0: 1 for the English. The fans of the Three Lions were less positive. When the players got on their knees before kick-off to take a stand against racism, some English people booed from the stands.
The gate: 56.Saka 1-0.
Holland 2-2 Scotland
The Dutch probably imagined the start of the EM preparation to be different. Oranje can’t get past a draw against Scotland. In the meantime 1: 1, however, the brilliance of the game of the Dutch shows for a short time. After a long pass into the top, Liverpool star Wijnaldum headed the ball straight on. The wonderful combination is completed by a direct purchase from Lyon player Depay. In the end, however, what counts is the result and not the technical bright spots. Something has to be done with the Dutch in view of the EM.
The goals: 10. Hendry 0: 1, 17th Depay 1: 1, 63. Nisbet 1: 2, 89. Depay 2: 2.
Bosnia 0-0 Montenegro
Both teams missed a European Championship participation. Accordingly, there is little fire in the lot. Ex-FCSG striker Ermedin Demirovic (currently at Freiburg), who is on the pitch for Bosnia up to the 65th minute, doesn’t change anything.
Norway 1-0 Luxembourg
A Haaland show stays away for a long time. Until the BVB striker scores at the very last moment and his Norwegian national team shoots to victory. However, neither Norway nor Luxembourg are at the EM.
The gate: 92. Haaland 1-0.
Belarus 1-2 Azerbaijan
The goals: 56. Skavysh 1-0, 73. Huseynov 1-1, 92. Sheydaev 1-2.
Romania 1-2 Georgia
The goals: 61. Mikautadze 0-1, 71. Aburjania 0-2, 78. Ivan 1-2.
