National Assembly: is the Socialist Party gradually breaking away from Nupes?

INTERVIEW

More than six months after the legislative elections, the Nupes is heard in the National Assembly. New debates, including pension reform, should continue to highlight the left alliance which brings together the Socialist Party, Europe-Ecology The Greens, La France insoumise and the French Communist Party. However, different stories are heard here and there, and during the debate of the PS for the renewal of the party, there was a lot of talk about the Nupes.

Interviewed by Pierre de Vilno on the show Europe Evening Weekend, the socialist deputy of Essonne and member of the left alliance, Jérôme Guedj, spoke about the future of the party. And for him, “it’s not about detaching yourself since it’s a coalition. It’s about saying, since everyone has their identity, their history, their temperament, their style and their way of embodying it” , is it suitable on Europe 1.

“I want us to stay together as long as possible”

“We did not create a single party, we did not merge, we did not submit to each other”, continues the deputy and support of Olivier Faure for the head of the PS, who recalls the context of the birth of the Nupes. “The agreement was reached in extraordinary circumstances. In a dozen days, the day after the presidential election where there were no left-wing candidates present in the second round, we did it (the agreement ) on the basis of the electoral balance of power resulting from the presidential election”, describes Jérôme Guedj.

“There was a report in the construction of the program and in the nominations”, agrees the socialist deputy, after having listed the different results of the left-wing candidates in the presidential election. “It was an agreement whose objective was to win the legislative elections. It did not work”, he admits, qualifying this election as “first stage”. “I want us to stay together for as long as possible, and especially in the next presidential election,” says Jérôme Guedj, calling for people to unite behind “the candidate whom the people of the left will consider to be the most capable of embodying” their political sensitivity.
