Rapperswil-Jona Lakers – train 4: 1 (series 2: 3)
Game 5 in Rapperswil-Jona was a reflection of Game 3 last Sunday. Once again it was the EVZ who got to celebrate first. After a great overview from Fabrice Herzog, Sven Leuenberger gave Lakers goalie Melvin Nyffeler no chance in a 1-on-1 game and scored the 1-0 for the guests in the 11th minute. However, Rapperswil-Jona successfully defended itself against the impending end of the season. In the middle third, Gian-Marco Wetter managed to equalize after a nice individual performance (26th), before the Lakers turned the game around with a majority.
After a mess in the slot, Yannick-Lennart Albrecht kept the overview and poked the disc past Leonardo Genoni over the goal line (31st). Although Zug had some good chances to equalize in the third period, the EVZ didn’t want to score another goal. On the other hand, Dominic Lammer (52nd) and Andrew Rowe in the empty goal (59th) secured the second win for the Lakers. Zug gets the next match puck on Sunday in the Bossard Arena.
Biel – Bern 3: 1 (series 3: 2)
The Seelanders have regained momentum in the series against their canton rivals. After losing the 2:0 advantage, the Biel team started game 5 with a lot of energy. After just 34 seconds, the home fans could celebrate the 1:0, Jere Sallinen had poked a rebound in front of Philip Wüthrich in the goal. Even before the break siren, Tino Kessler followed up with a solid shot to make it 2-0 (14th).
SCB then came into play in the middle third, but needed a majority situation and a strong action from Oscar Lindberg to mark the goal: The Swede was given too much freedom at the left post and supplied the target with a backhand lob under the bar, which is worth seeing (34th). However, there wasn’t much more from SCB that evening, and Biel brought the home win confidently over time. The Seelanders now have two match pucks, the first on Sunday in the capital.
