NCIS: bad news for fans of the detective series

As the Hollywood strike nears its end, production of series will gradually resume in the United States. But with the delay for several months, “NCIS” will experience the shortest season in its history.

It has now been more than 5 months since Hollywood has been paralyzed by an unprecedented strike. While the writers have finally reached an agreement with the studios, it is now the actors who are trying to make their voices heard, and assert their rights.

But while an agreement should be reached in the coming days, American television channels are already starting to anticipate their broadcast schedules, and to plan the resumption of filming, which should happen by the end of November if all goes well.

But because of this strike, which caused major production delays, the new seasons of the various Network series will see their number of episodes considerably truncated.

10 to 13 episodes for NCIS

Normally, to ensure broadcast in October, which is usually the start date for most of the series offered on television, the writing of new scripts must begin in the spring, for filming at the start of the year. summer.

However, with the writers’ strike, then the actors’ strike, this schedule was completely turned upside down. It is therefore several months late that filming of the new seasons should begin.

A delay which will have serious consequences on the series. Because if productions have resumed, with the writing of scripts, the 2023/2024 season is already well underway. The US series will therefore see their season greatly shortened.

According to information from TVLinethe channels will almost halve the number of episodes, as will be the case for season 21 of NCIS (which survived the departure of one of its emblematic characters).

Even though the writers of the detective series have been very productive since the end of the strike last month, this will not allow for a full season. According to a source, production of the fiction should begin at the end of November. If the schedule is respected, a season 21 composed of 13 episodes could be considered for one of the oldest series on American television.

Regarding other CBS procedurals, notably NCIS: Hawai’i and the FBI franchise, they should have seasons of between 10 and 13 episodes, with filming scheduled to resume after Thanksgiving (i.e. after Thursday, November 23).

The same goes for the Young Sheldon comedy. We will therefore probably have to wait until the beginning of 2024 to discover the new adventures of the heroes of NCIS.
