It’s not uncommon for actors to call on their families to play small roles in their series. This is the case for Chris O’Donnell (Callen) who had his wife and children appear in “NCIS: Los Angeles.”
Since the franchise’s launch, NCIS has regularly used the children of its main actors to play certain characters in its plots. Mark Harmon’s son, Sean Harmon, played young Gibbs in several episodes of the parent series. But he’s not the only actor to have brought his family to NCIS.
Chris O’Donnell’s Family on NCIS: Los Angeles
During his 14 seasons at the helm of NCIS: Los Angeles, Chris O’Donnell, who plays Callen, had the opportunity to bring his wife and five children to the police series.
Caroline, his wife since 1997, appeared in 2015, on the occasion of the 4th episode of season 7 of NCIS: Los Angeles, in the company of their daughter Maeve. Lily played in episode 24 of season 1, in the company of her brother Charlie, who played young Callen for the occasion.
Charlie also appeared in episode 12 of season 1 in a completely different role. His other son, Finley, also played his father in his younger version in seasons 2 and 3 of NCIS: Los Angeles.
O’Donnell’s Last Son Almost Didn’t Star in the Series
While four of Chris O’Donnell’s five children appeared in the first seasons of NCIS: Los Angeles, we had to wait until the finale of the last season to discover the face of Chip, the eldest of the siblings.
The latter should have appeared earlier, but COVID decided otherwise. He was supposed to play Callen in a flashback, and then COVID happened…” confided R. Scott Gemmill, the showrunner of NCIS: Los Angeles to our colleagues at TVLine.
“But all of Chris’s other kids had appeared on the show except Chip, so I said, ‘OK, I’m running out of time, I’ve got to put him in the last episode.’ It was a nice tribute to Chris..” A beautiful family story!
Watch the new season 13 of NCIS: Los Angeles every Saturday from 9:10 p.m. on M6.
