“NCIS”: near-death experience! Why DiNozzo almost died in Season 2

“NCIS” has had many crowd favorites over the years, but none has quite matched Tony DiNozzo. The agent played by Michael Weatherly was not only good at his job, with his charm he seemed to easily wrap the viewers around his finger. His departure was all the more serious when he went to France to live with his daughter. Meanwhile, Weatherly really took off with his own series “Bull”. However, DiNozzo remains unforgotten – especially what is perhaps the worst scene he has ever had to endure.

Admittedly, the supposed death of his love Ziva David in season eleven took DiNozzo hard. From then on he was a single father and even quit his job at NCIS. But in retrospect there was a happy ending. David returned and the small family now lives together in France.

In contrast, DiNozzo certainly doesn’t like thinking back to a scene from the 22nd episode of season two. In the episode entitled “Kiss of Death”, a letter ends up at NCIS headquarters. It is only addressed to “NCIS Special Agent”. In addition, a red kissable mouth with lipstick was immortalized. DiNozzo, bold as he is, grabs the letter because he thinks he can recognize the sender by the kiss on his lips. When he opens the letter, however, he already regrets his decision. A white powder shoots out, and an anthrax attack is suspected.

Anthrax can be ruled out in the hospital. But the real diagnosis doesn’t sound any better: a form of pneumonic plague is spreading through DiNozzo. The doctors give him only a 15% chance of survival. Cait is even sure that he would die. And in fact, according to the Robert Koch Institute, pneumonic plague is almost always fatal if it is not treated. As is well known, DiNozzo was able to cheat death once again, but this near-death experience would not let him go for a long time.

He may even return to “NCIS” soon. Gibbs has since retired and Weatherly’s series “Bull” will be canceled with its sixth season. So the timing for a comeback couldn’t be better.
