Near-disaster – ghost drive through two motorway tunnels!

A ghost truck ride on the Pyhrnautobahn in Upper Austria cost a 42-year-old Uzbek his driver’s license on Saturday. Despite oncoming traffic, he drove through two tunnels as a wrong-way driver before he had to stop again due to traffic.

A 42-year-old Uzbek citizen drove his truck on the A9 Pyhrnautobahn towards Wels around 6 a.m. on Saturday. Due to storm damage, the A9 towards Wels was closed between the Klaus and Inzersdorf junctions and vehicle traffic was routed via the B138. The 42-year-old therefore drove off the A9 in Klaus. Listened to the navigation system. However, following the instructions on his navigation device, he drove back onto the A9 via the Klaus junction. He ignored the red light signals in the ramp area. However, he stopped in front of the so-called Hungerbicheltunnel because of the red light. He then switched to the oncoming lane via a diversion located in this area and drove his truck against the direction of travel in the left lane and despite oncoming traffic through the Hungerbichel and Kienberg tunnels. Negligent endangerment to the public Due to the tunnel closures that were immediately initiated, the driver also had to leave his vehicle because vehicles stopped bring to a standstill. The man’s driver’s license was temporarily confiscated and a security deposit was required. He is also reported to the Steyr public prosecutor’s office for negligently endangering the public.
