nearly 2,500 euros demanded by a 13-year-old girl

Bad surprise for a teenager from Lyon who received a letter instructing her to pay 2,467 euros in housing tax. Fortunately, the error should be quickly corrected.

A review from housing tax claiming the sum of 2467 euros. Obviously, receiving this type of mail is always very bad news…. Even more so when you’re 13! Because this is indeed the misadventure that happened to Sophie, a teenager from Lyon, as reported Progress. The latter therefore received, in her name, a housing tax, asking her to pay nearly 2,500 euros.

Logically, Sophie goes to see her parents, explaining that she will not have enough pocket money to pay this amount. The parents immediately think there is an error and try to contact the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP). In vain, since each phone call made by the father ends with a message announcing that the line is saturated, and which must be recalled later. If it is also possible to contact the DGFiP by making an online request, Sophie’s parents fear an even longer response time.

An error in filling out a declaration

The end of the story finally came from Progress. Contacted by the daily, the DGFiP explained that the problem came from an error in the declaration of the parents, who indicated that their daughter was accommodated with them free of charge.

According to public financescompleting this declaration was an error, because it meant that their daughter had a secondary residence, in addition to the family’s main residence. However, if the housing tax is indeed abolished for main residences, it remains due for other real estate. However, public finances have indicated that the tax notice will be canceled once the error is confirmed.
