While M6 is rebroadcasting Elusive this evening, here is what we know about the 3rd film in the franchise, currently in development!
Will there be an Elusive 3? While the first part, released in 2013, is broadcast tonight on M6, it’s time to take stock of the magical franchise! After two films released in 2013, then 2016, there should indeed be an episode 3. After Louis Leterrier and Jon M. Chu, it is the director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Venom, Uncharted…) who is announced at the helm.
Jesse Eisenberg (currently starring in the Anatomy of a Divorce series on Disney+), Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Morgan Freeman, stars of the first two games, are expected to return. Lionsgate, the studio which produces the film, has said its wish to bring together the entire cast for this 3rd film. It will be written by Top Gun Maverick screenwriter Eric Warren Singer.
“Eric has always been fascinated by the art of prestidigitation and illusion in all its forms. He presented us with a great story that takes the mythology of Elusive and takes the Four Horsemen to a whole new level with our usual main cast and new characters.“, confided Nathan Kahane, president of Lionsgate, at the microphone of THR in 2020.
Director Ruben Fleischer also expressed his enthusiasm in a press release relayed by Deadline: “There are three things in this world that I love: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and magic. Having the chance to work with these two talented actors, as well as the rest of the incredible cast of Elusive films, is a dream come true.“, he said.
“I’ve always been a fan of heist movies, I love getting carried away by the twists and the mystery. And it’s even more true when the thieves are magicians. the possibilities are limitless“, he concluded.
When will the film shoot? The mystery remains for the moment whole. Recently questioned by our colleagues from Premiere, Jesse Eisenberg said he had no information for the moment on the period in which the film will be shot. To be continued !
For the record, the two feature films in the franchise brought in $687 million in worldwide box office receipts.
