A little color on the lips – the day is not so gray anymore. We reveal the new trends, professional tricks for all things make-up and grooming, and you will also find out which alternatives to the rubber boat look the Beauty Docs have in store.

1. Celebrate color

There are many beautiful tones. At least as exciting: the different textures. One of the biggest challenges for cosmetic companies? Combine matt and nourishing.

Now comes the big glow! After a few seasons in which the no-make-up look was particularly popular, people are now playing with lots of color on their mouths again. The palette ranges from bright orange-red tones (Oscar de la Renta) to classic red (Proenza Schouler) and dark berry nuances. The latter were not accurately brushed on at Fendi, but rather casually dabbed in the middle of the lips, reminiscent of traces of red wine. A lot has also happened in terms of textures: Lancôme and Yves Saint Laurent have opted for a kind of "semi-matt". That means: rather matt and therefore more durable than a glossy finish, but without a dry feeling on the lips. Dior brings out its "Rouge Dior" pencils in two additional finishes: a shimmering "Metallic" and "Velvet", which makes the color appear powdery, extra matt and correspondingly strongly pigmented, but does not feel dry on the lips either .

2. It pays to maintain

Peelings, balms, oils … In terms of lip care products, a lot has happened in the meantime. It also makes sense, after all, the mouth is a very sensitive area.

Yes, lipsticks contain oils and moisturizers. But those who tend to have dry lips need more. Apart from that, the color holds better on well-cared for lips and does not settle. Therefore, dab on a balm during skin care. Many make-up professionals rely on "Homéoplasmine" from France, a petroleum jelly with plant extracts (e.g. via www.viata-shop.de). What works great against acute dandruff: "Dip a towel in hot tap water, then put some lip balm on it and carefully rub your lips," recommends make-up artist Gucci Westman, who also applies make-up to stars like Jennifer Aniston. To prevent dry areas from developing in the first place, it is best to exfoliate your lips at least two to three times a week. A mix of a little olive oil and sugar is very good: The particles dissolve and only the care remains on the skin.

3. Casual beats accurately

As with nail polish, the same applies to lipstick: It is better to apply several thin layers than one thick one – the result then simply sticks better.

Brush, finger or at least a pen: there are many ways to apply paint. But especially in times when we are often out and about with a mask, a look is recommended that is not about perfection from the outset – which may then blur anyway. "Dabbing the color with your fingers is not only very easy, it also bonds very well with the skin and therefore stains less," explains Norman Pohl, International Pro Team Make-Up Artist at Dior. "For even more durability, I first paint the entire lip with a colorless liner, then the pigments will adhere better later. Then apply the paint as thinly as possible and, for more depth, use two layers rather than a thicker one. And finally everything with something fix with transparent powder. By the way, blush has the same effect and also brings a beautiful play of colors to the lips. "

4. More is also more subtle

Volume is injected quickly? Yes, lip tissue can also scar quickly. Therefore: Think carefully about who to let in – the more experience, the better.

Visits to the beauty doc are particularly popular right now – after all, redness and swelling can be hidden well under a mask. At the top of the list of the most popular interventions in Germany are injections with hyaluronic acid, often in the lip. "Young women usually want more volume, older women want the lip they once had," says Dr. Sonja Sattler, expert in dermatology and founder of the "Bellari Rosenpark – Medical Beauty Practice" in Frankfurt and Hamburg. "Both are possible – even without looking like an operation." While in the past mostly a pointed needle was used, Sattler now uses more gentle blunt cannulas. The filler is also not injected directly into the sensitive red lips, but laterally over the corners of the mouth. "This reduces the risk of hitting an artery." Thinner and therefore more supple hyaluronic acid ensures a more natural result. In the so-called lipflip, on the other hand, diluted botox is injected into the edge of the lip. This should relax the upper lip and turn it slightly outwards – for a very gentle effect.

5. We'll take that off

Everything should come back down before bed. And so that the skin does not dry out, it is best to take care of it a little afterwards.

And it's very easy and gentle. Companies such as e.l.f. now offer special lipstick removers. An oil-based eye make-up remover also works – after all, it was developed for an equally sensitive area. "It is important to let the soaked pad soak on the skin for a moment, so the pigments can dissolve", advises make-up artist Norman Pohl. "Then wipe gently from the bottom up and from the outside in, so that the paint doesn't accidentally spread outside the lip." Small blunders can best be eliminated with a Q-tip dipped in remover. A touch of foundation, also dabbed on with a stick, helps against any remaining paint.
