“Need permanent migration”: Junge Union advertises for immigrants – not just professionals

“Need permanent migration”
Junge Union promotes immigrants – not just professionals

The new head of the Junge Union is demanding something that his party has struggled with for a long time. Due to demographic change, Germany needs permanent migration. Johannes Winkel clarifies that nothing would work without people with a migration background.

According to the new head of the Junge Union (JU), Johannes Winkel, Germany does not just need skilled workers to immigrate. “We are an immigration country, we need immigration,” said Winkel to the “Spiegel”. “We need permanent migration to Germany in order to cope with the demographic change.” This is a reality that the Union has struggled with for a long time.

When asked whether he was only talking about skilled workers or whether he would say that Germany generally needs workers, the head of the youth organization of the CDU and CSU replied: “We need both.” Without people with a migration background, nothing would work in Germany. “In general, politicians should say thank you more often to people who come to Germany and work hard here for their families and our country.”

The traffic light government made up of SPD, Greens and FDP praises itself for its “supposedly modern immigration law,” explained Winkel. “But all successful immigration countries in the world first clearly define their needs.” He demanded: “But we must also have the courage to define that the aim of this immigration is the labor market.” It is currently the case that immigration to a large extent leads directly into the social systems. “It’s not sustainable in the long run.” He called for an “honest and realistic debate”.

The previous JU chief of North Rhine-Westphalia received 260 of 305 votes cast at the Deutschlandtag of the Junge Union in November. He was the only applicant for the post. The previous incumbent Tilman Kuban did not appear after three and a half years, the 35-year-old had reached the JU age limit.
