The Avengers of horrific-parodic cinema! After their slasher version of Winnie the Pooh, the creators of “Blood and Honey” are preparing a saga of films around iconic characters, brought together in a final Marvel-style part.
Bambi, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, Tigger, Piglet and Winnie, Pinocchio but also The Mad Hatter and Sleeping Beauty… All these heroes of the Disney classics will soon be entitled to their horror film.
Production companies Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios announce a new cinematic universe titled: “The Twisted childhood universe“, in which the characters of our childhood are transformed into bloodthirsty monsters.
So after Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood And Honey, released in 2023, get ready for: Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood And Honey 2, Bambi: The Reckoning, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare and Pinocchio Unstrung. After having their own film, all these heroes will find themselves in Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble in 2025, a sort of Avengers horror version of the Disney heroes.
Heroes fallen into the public domain
In this opus, Winnie the Pooh, Bambi, Peter Pan and Pinocchio will be joined by Sleeping Beauty, The Mad Hatter and Coco Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh. All these characters have in fact just fallen into the public domain. The Walt Disney studio, which until now held the rights, is no longer the only one able to integrate these characters into its stories.
After transforming the quiet Winnie the Pooh into a sadistic killer, the company Jagged Films is continuing its momentum. Rated 1.1 stars out of 5 by AlloCiné internet users and winner of the Razzie for worst film of the year, Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood And Honey was nevertheless a great success since it only cost 100,000 dollars and grossed almost 5 million internationally. A second opus, still directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, was quickly announced and the recipe will therefore be applied to other Disney heroes.
A first poster for Poohniverse, scheduled for 2025, has also been revealed. We see the anti-heroes with a very different look from the original characters. The most observant will have noticed that the font of the title is the same as that of Avengers.
The Avengers of Horror
Rhys Frake-Waterfield will direct this film while Scott Chambers will return in the role of Christopher Robin, Megan Plactio will play Wendy Darling, Roxanne Mckee will be Xana and Lewis Santer will be Tigger.
During the announcement, the director and producer said: “It will be real carnage. We are heavily influenced by Freddy Vs Jason and Avengers. We’d like to see a horror movie where the bad guys band together and prey on the survivors. We have some incredible sets and sequences in mind that I think will really shock people. The films we are currently working on as stand alones are all built towards Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.”
