Valentine’s Day, the Christmas of the flower shops. But is it really flowers that women want on February 14th? According to a survey, another gift is much more popular.

Rather than roses and chocolates, more personal Valentine’s gifts rank much higher: namely, sex, intimacy, and time together. A current, representative YouGov survey commissioned by the potency app Kranus Edera found that flowers are not as popular with men. This is not surprising, but the classic roses have apparently become obsolete for women too. But let’s take a look at the results of the survey.

Honey, please don’t give me flowers, rather…

The survey of 2042 people aged 18 and over showed that 26 percent of all women surveyed received a classic bouquet of flowers for Valentine’s Day, while only 21 percent actually wanted flowers. Most people find the small gesture nice. But even greater is the desire for something else: time together. On Valentine’s Day, almost every second woman (44 percent) and almost every second man (49 percent) would like to spend time together. A nice dinner, a concert, a visit to the theater or just sex: Around 50 percent of all couples would like to spend Valentine’s Day together.

Would you rather have rose petals in bed than in a vase?

The fact is, flowers and sex are about equally popular or unpopular as Valentine’s Day gifts. Just as many women enjoy intimacy as much as they enjoy roses, namely 21 percent of the women surveyed. With men, on the other hand, one can speak of a gap, if one compares flowers with sex. About half of all respondents would like sex on Valentine’s Day. However, there are 49 percent of women who explicitly do not want sex on Valentine’s Day.

The survey does not evaluate whether it is due to the tag, the way in which it is branded and monetized, or poor communication within the relationship, it may be a combination of everything. However, the experts of the potency app Kranus Edera recommend: “It is important to discuss expectations and wishes with each other. Open communication in a relationship creates understanding and awareness for the partner and can strengthen mutual cooperation and also provide a suitable platform for other problems. Break taboos and dare to speak openly about your wants and needs.”

The best gift is perhaps a nice dinner and a good conversation.
