Nest Hub: an update adds a hint of Fitbit to its connected screen

As Google I/O, a developer-focused event, approaches, rumors and small, quiet updates abound. While the arrival of the Pixel Watch is at the center of all attention, other products are receiving new features that say a lot about Google’s strategy.

Spotted by 9to5Google, a new support page explains the steps for users to sync and view their Fitbit and Google Fit data with the Google Nest Hub using Google Assistant.

The page does not indicate whether all Nest Hubs will be affected or only those of the 2nd generation which introduced, thanks to Soli sensors, a relatively reliable (but relatively useless for most people) means of tracking sleep.

The most interesting thing about this integration is to see how Google is gradually integrating Fitbit into its ecosystem. A complete universe strategy, mixing hardware and software, which is reminiscent of what Apple has implemented for years.

With the Google I/O approaching, it would not be surprising to see new updates arriving in the days and weeks to follow. To be continued.
