(Boursier.com) — Nestle Purina is investing 200 million francs to expand its pet food factory in Silao, Mexico. This expansion will include the addition of a 3rd wet food line for pets and a 4th dry food line, making this factory the largest dedicated to pets in Latin America.

An additional 48ha of land adjacent to the property has been acquired to allow for future expansions of the factory and to construct a distribution center for the local and export market.

The Silao factory currently produces 125 varieties of dry food and 45 varieties of wet pet food. The factory employs nearly 600 people directly. Thanks to its expansion, up to 94 new jobs will be created.

Over the last 10 years, Nestlé has invested more than 700 million francs in the Purina factory in Silao which, since 2022, has used 100% renewable energy.

The Mexican market is Purina’s largest in Latin America, accounting for 44% of Purina’s total sales in the region. It is also the 4th largest global market for Purina, highlighting the growing importance of emerging economies to the pet food sector.
