Netanyahu reaffirms that he wants “neither Hamas nor Fatah” in Gaza

JERUSALEM, December 12 (Reuters) – Israel is supported by the United States in its objective of eradicating Hamas but the two allies differ on the post-conflict, the Israeli Prime Minister admitted on Tuesday.

Reaffirming his refusal to see the Palestinian Authority regain control of the Gaza Strip, Benjamin Netanyahu declared in a statement that “Gaza will be neither a ‘Hamastan’ nor a ‘Fatahstan'”, in reference to Fatah, the party of Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority.

“I would like to clarify my position: I will not allow Israel to repeat the mistake of Oslo,” added the head of the Israeli government, referring to the 1993 Oslo Accords.

“Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement equating the Oslo Accords with what happened on October 7 confirms that he is at war against all Palestinians,” said the secretary general of the PLO (Organization for the Liberation of Palestine), Hussein al Sheikh.

“We tell Netanyahu that Oslo is dead under the tracks of his tanks,” he added. (Dan Williams, Jean-Stéphane Brosse for the French version)
