Netflix takes the scalpel

Pulse is a series created by Zoe Robyn (writer on Hawaii Five-0 And The Equalizer), who will also share the position of showrunner with Carlton Cuse. The latter is a veteran of the small screen already very accustomed to this role, which he took on on Lost, Bates Motel, The Strain and more recently on another Netflix series, Locke & Key.

First procedural show on the streaming platform (i.e. whose episodes tell contained stories that do not necessarily require us to follow the entire series), Pulse should give pride of place to medical cases as much as to the personal relationships of caregivers. In short, a mix ofEMERGENCIES and of Grey’s Anatomy.

According to the teaser released by Netflix, the series takes place in Miami’s busiest trauma center, where staff deal with medical emergencies. That’s when young emergency room doctor Dani Simms is unexpectedly promoted to chief intern while having to deal with the fallout of a spicy romantic relationship.

It is not yet known who will play the role of Dani, but Netflix has already announced one of the actresses in the casting of Pulse. Justina Machado (As the days go by, The Horror Of Dolores Roach) will play Dr. Natalie Cruz, a brilliant and politically savvy woman, head of the surgery and emergency medicine department.

The first two episodes of Pulse will be directed by Kate Dennis (The Handmaid’s Tale, New Amsterdam) and filming is expected to begin this month in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bradley Gardner (Teen Wolf, the movie), Emma Forman (Five Days at Memorial) and Michael Klick (Homeland) are in production.

While waiting to know when this new medical series will arrive on Netflix, you can (re)visit the hospital in Grey’s Anatomy on the Disney+ streaming platform.
