Netflix: a Squid Game actor prosecuted for sexual assault


Following a complaint filed in December 2021, actor O Yeong-su, known for “Squid Game”, is accused of sexual assault.

78-year-old actor O Yeong-su, known for his role in Squid Game, has been prosecuted since Thursday, November 24, 2022 for sexual assault. He was released without custody. The facts date back to 2017. The man allegedly touched a woman’s body inappropriately. The victim filed a complaint in December 2021, before the authorities closed the case without further action in April 2022.

According to the Yonhap news agency, the investigation was reopened at the request of the victim – whose identity remains anonymous. As for the accused, he denies the charges against him. Prosecutors in Suwon, a city in South Korea, made the information public on Friday. AFP nevertheless quotes the court of Suwon which considers that “not everything reported in the local media is factually correct“.

In a press release, O Yeong-su explained, “I just held her hand to guide her around the lake. I apologized because she didn’t want to make a fuss about it, but that doesn’t change. not that I recognize the charges made against me.”

Following this accusation, the Korean Ministry of Culture decided to withdraw a television commercial in which the star appears. Last January, O Yeong-su won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Squid Game, which has become a worldwide phenomenon.
