The Exploding Kittens card game is exported to Netflix! First via a mobile game which will be launched in May, then via an animated series created by Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-Head, Silicon Valley) and Greg Daniels (The Office US, Parks and Recreation), who had already imagined together The Kings of Texas.

Expected for 2023, the series will follow “the eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell, which reaches epic proportions when God and the Devil are sent to Earth in the bodies of big domestic cats”. A funny pitch which therefore attracted Tom Ellis, alias Lucifer, who will lend his voice to God, as he made it known on his Instagram account.

It is the actress Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live) who will take on the role of the Devil while Ally Maki (Cloak & Dagger) and Abraham Lim (The Boys) will camp a brother and a sister whose mother is a character dubbed by Lucy Liu (Elementary).

An innovative concept

In a press release relayed by varietyMike Moon, the head of adult animation at Netflix, was happy to have chosen the game where kittens explode to try a new adventure:

Developing a game and an anime series simultaneously opens new horizons for Netflix, and we couldn’t think of a better game to build a universe around than Exploding Kittens, one of the most inventive games, emblematic and original of this century.

Once the show aired, “future maps and game mechanics will be themed around the animated series so friends and families can play with their favorite characters and bring the series to life”, clarified Netflix. So, tempted?
