Like everyone who is eager to find love again after a long relationship, Dave tried an online dating app. The contact with Liz and Cari was promising. Both single and charming mothers, they helped him, each in their own way, to come out of his shell. But what was supposed to be an opportunity for a hard-working and devoted dad to reconnect with one-night stand quickly became a twisted love triangle that put Dave and his loved ones in danger.
A meeting that goes wrong
A few days after the excellent documentary series on Raël and that on a couple accused of having invented his kidnapping, it is a brand new true crime that Netflix is offering its subscribers. Entitled Lover, Stalker, Killer: the ex of the extreme, this 1h30 film relates a fascinating criminal case told from the point of view of the protagonists and the investigators.
From the first minutes, we are informed of the originality of this news item: a woman is accused of murder… but the body has never been found. A word of advice when starting this documentary: find out as little as possible about the case (we will not go into details in this article). You will be even more surprised by the twist that happens halfway through the film. Because in this story, the victims can hide many things.
Director Sam Hobkinson (Fear City: New York Against the Mafia) was able to rely on archive images to illustrate his true crime, but he also used the method of reconstruction to stage the love triangle which took place in this small town in Omaha. And it was successful. The viewer delves into their past (the affair took place between 2012 and 2016) and feels the paranoia that Dave had to live with for years. Creepy.
