Led by the priceless British duo made up of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, to whom we owe the cult Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz in particular, the feature film, available on Netflix, should give you a hell of a good time of relaxation. .
Released in theaters in March 2011, Paul tells the story of two retarded teenage science fiction fans who, as they criss-cross the United States in a motorhome, come face to face with an extraterrestrial. The government, with which he collaborated, having decided to get rid of him, the alien will ask the two heroes to take him with them and help him leave Earth. But the task will be far from easy…
To create Paul, a regressive comedy with undeniable sympathy capital in which Jason Bateman and Kristen Wiig also shine, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost did not do things by halves since they watched fifty (!!) films from aliens and road movies before tackling the script! The result is a beautiful declaration of love for SF cinema and geek culture.
“Shaun of the Dead was an homage to zombie movies, Hot Fuzz was an homage to action movies, and Paul is an homage to 70s sci-fi movies”confirms director Greg Mottola. “The script awoke in me a great nostalgic resonance, it was written from the point of view of two fans of the genre”.
Paul, who benefits from the voices of Seth Rogen (in VO) and Philippe Maneuver (in VF) for the dubbing of the creature, is obviously stuffed with nods to SF cinema. From Star Wars to Star Trek via ET and Indiana Jones, these references slipped lovingly by Pegg & Frost will no doubt not escape you… As for this true icon of the genre, you will be delighted to find her on screen in luxury guest, but shh, we don’t tell you who it is!
