Netflix: an explosive trailer for the film Luther with Idris Elba (and a reference to James Bond!)

Netflix has just revealed the explosive trailer for the film “Luther: Fallen Sun” which concludes the adventures of Britain’s most enraged cop.

Netflix has just released an intense first trailer for Luther: Fallen Sun, which marks the highly anticipated return of Idris Elba as London’s most iconoclastic cop. As a reminder, Inspector John Luther ended up in prison in the BBC series of which he was the hero. A bitter end for those who have too often circumvented the law to apply theirs.

The feature film obviously does not take place only in prison. The trailer opens with a riot within the prison facility that will likely lead to Luther’s escape, much to the chagrin of his former boss, Division Commissioner Martin Schenk (Dermot Crowley) and a new character. Odette Raine played by Cynthia Erivo.

But they might finally be happy about it because a new villain is on the way, and Luther is the only one who can stop him. That antagonist is cyber-psychopath and serial killer David Robey, played by Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis. This David Robey taunts Luther throughout the trailer and seems even more terrifying than any villain we’ve seen on the show.

The film is expected on March 10 on the platform. If successful, this could just be the start for more Luther-centric films.

John is a main character in a film in which he is the hero. This is the comparison I am making. Some movies do it well – Bond is one of them. But my ambition for this movie is to have that kind of scale, that reverence“, explains Idris Elba to Digital Spy. An allusion to Bond which is perhaps not innocent. We can also spotted in the trailer a subway scene that makes direct reference to the film Skyfall.

I want people to be like, ‘Ooh! Luther, the first movie? Marvellous’. And let it continue. And then maybe later, when I’m too old, someone else will take over to play John.“concludes the actor.

See you on March 10 to discover Luther: Fallen Sun.
