Netflix canceled his film but validates this director’s series, and the pitch is promising

Led by Halle Berry, “The Mothership” will never be released on Netflix. But its director Matt Charman is not holding grudges since he has already found his next project for the platform.

At the end of January, Netflix made an announcement that surprised many: for the first time in its history, the American giant decided to cancel the release of a film that had already been shot.

We are talking here about the SF production The Mothership with Halle Berry, in which she investigates the disappearance of her husband. When she discovers a strange object under their house, she and her children embark on a frantic race to find it.

A film canceled but a series launched

If this decision was taken by mutual agreement between the parties, it was certainly a hard blow for its director Matt Charman. Especially since it was his first time behind the camera, he who we know best for his work as a screenwriter (on Bridge of Spies, in particular). But the latter does not seem to hold grudges.

In an article from Deadline, we learn that Charman is working on a new project in collaboration with Netflix. Not a film this time, but a series called The Choice and led by actress Suranne Jones (Doctor Foster).

This British thriller will plunge us into the highest strata of the political sphere. Filming should begin this month on the other side of the Channel, with a probable launch in 2025.

The Halle Berry case

Matt Charman is not the only one to continue working with Netflix despite the disappointment of The Mothership. As a reminder, Halle Berry signed a contract with the American giant in 2021 to star in several productions.

In the absence of her science fiction film, we will see her (normally) this year in The Union, an action thriller with JK Simmons, Mike Colter and Mark Wahlberg.

The latter will play Mike, a construction worker from New Jersey and a pragmatic boy, who finds himself immersed in the world of spies when his ex-high school girlfriend Roxanne (Berry) hires him for a high-risk mission… on behalf of the American secret services.
