“The Witcher” reinvents itself in season 4 with Liam Hemsworth as Henry Cavill’s replacement. But the adventures of the new Geralt are short-lived because Netflix is ending the series after season 5.

The days when “The Witcher” was a big series event on Netflix are long gone. Season 1 hit like a bomb, but after that the audience’s interest steadily declined. When it was clear before season 3 that Henry Cavill would soon be leaving, many former fans gave up on the series before Cavill’s final scene was even released.
Nevertheless, Netflix decided early on to stick with “The Witcher” and a Cavill replacement was quickly found in Liam Hemsworth. The writers and actors’ strike in the US delayed filming of Season 4, but now the cameras are finally rolling. But it is also clear that the end of Hemsworth’s Geralt has already been determined,
Final in 2026?
Together with a short video from the table read for season 4, Netflix also announced the end of “The Witcher” after season 5. This means that the series still has two seasons to complete the story of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich says:
Filming has begun on the penultimate season of The Witcher, with a star-studded cast led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia and other exciting new additions. We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push the characters to their absolute limits

Even if it doesn’t look like the last two seasons of “The Witcher” will be filmed in one go, the early extension for season 5 still has the advantage that the time between the seasons should be shorter than usual.
“The Witcher” season 4 can be expected on Netflix in 2025, and the 5th and final season could await us as early as 2026. You can now see Henry Cavill, the former Geralt, on Apple TV+ in the film “Argylle” – and it’s free, because the streaming service is currently giving away three months.
