Coming to Netflix in April 2023, the series Dead Boy Detectives will not be entitled to a second season on the SVOD service.
The streaming giant has indeed decided to cancel the series, without giving a specific reason, even though everything seems to point to a lack of interest on the part of subscribers.
Too low performance
Derived from the universe Sandman, Dead Boy Detectives is a series that follows a pair of ghosts who team up with a psychic to conduct paranomistic investigations. However, it didn’t quite find its audience on Netflix.
While it managed to remain in the top 10 most-watched English-language series on the platform for three weeks, climbing to second place upon its release, Dead Boy Detectives only amassed 3.1 million views in its first three days on the streaming service. After a week, it had 4.7 million views before dropping to 1.8 million views in its third week and then dropping out of the Top 10.

A performance that is probably far too weak in the eyes of Netflix to justify renewing the series for a second season, despite 92% positive reviews on the site. Rotten Tomatoes.
Fans have already rallied on social media to try to save the series with hashtags like #RenewDeadBoyDetectives and #SaveDeadBoyDetectives, as well as petitions on Change.org, but it seems unlikely that Netflix will change its mind.

End of the road for Dead Boy Detectives
Adapted from Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed DC comic series, Dead Boy Detective was originally supposed to be a series broadcast on Max, ordered by Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform in 2022 before being sold to Netflix in 2023.
As pointed out Varietyit seemed then that Max had decided to sell the show because it did not fit the new approach to DC universe projects thought up by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Starring George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri in the titular roles, Dead Boy Detective was developed for television by Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant) and produced by Beth Schwartz, Greg Berlanti, Jeremy Carver, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, and Gaiman.
Like the characters of Dead Boy Detectives were first introduced in a volume of the comics Sandmanit finally made sense to see the series arrive on Netflix, which already broadcasts the adaptation of Sandman whose season 2 is due to arrive soon. Some characters from Sandman even appeared in the first season of Dead Boy Detectives.
