Dear Netflix subscribers, you will lose yet another Netflix series after this umpteenth cancellation. Very bad news for some which was announced by one of the actors.
The non-renewal of television series has unfortunately become commonplace on SVOD platforms. And Netflix is undoubtedly one of the services that practices this abandonment of projects midstream the most. There is no shortage of examples and we can cite the sudden cessation in 1899 of the creators of Dark, when they would have wanted two additional seasons, the cancellation in 2023 of the fantasy series Shadow and Bone or even Dead Boy Detectives. It continues since Netflix cancels this ultra cult series, although there is perhaps hope.
A Netflix series still not renewed
We have bad news for all fans of a big sitcom from the 90s: you probably won’t see Grandpa Red from That 70’s Show again. Indeed, after reassessment, Netflix cancels That 90’s Show. There was no explanation from the service and it was Kurtwood Smith, the actor of Red Forman in the two series, who spoke on his Insta profile.
“ I know you asked me when season 3 will be available, but I have some bad news… Netflix will not be renewing. I just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all the fans around the world who have supported us and watched the show. You came to meet me in different corners of the globe when I was traveling. You contacted me on social media, you have been so wonderful” said Kurtwood Smith on Instagram following the non-renewal of the Netflix series.
Despite this shortened adventure on Netflix, Kurtwood Smith wants to remember the best and the good times spent with the teams. “ […] I loved every minute of bringing Grandpa Red to life for you all. I’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating… This series was made with a lot of heart. The actors, writers, directors, producers and crew are the most wonderful people an actor could hope to work with. Thank you for letting Red and Kitty, their grandchildren, their friends and neighbors, the original cast members of That 70’s Show, and all of our wonderful guests entertain you for two seasons » he adds before perhaps suggesting that That 90’s Show could continue elsewhere.
That 90’s Show canceled… A return to Prime Video, Max or Disney+?
Netflix has stopped the fees, but could the series That 90’s Show be saved by another platform? In absolute terms, this has already been seen. The most recent example is none other than the animated show Batman Caped Crusader which moved from Max to Amazon Prime Video. On Kurtwood Smith’s side, a door may have been ajar. “ In the words of Red Forman, we’re not going to be idiots. We’re going to sell the show because good grandparents would do everything possible for these kids to graduate high school ». Is it a simple wink or a real intention to go out of your way to come back? Time will tell, but perhaps Prime Video, Disney+ or Max will take over from Netflix.
