Almost a year after officially launching into video games with five mobile titles offered on Android, Netflix has given news of its offer cloud gaming. During TechCrunch Disrupt, Netflix Vice President of Gaming Mike Verdu said that Netflix “seriously exploring a cloud offering”.
“It is an added valuehe says. We are not asking you to subscribe as a console replacement. It’s a completely different business model. The hope is that over time it becomes this very natural way of playing games wherever you are.” Mobile games previously released by Netflix were available from the video streaming app, although downloading each title required going through the Google Play Store. Since then, the games have also been launched on iOS.
If the company’s schedule seems rather vague, Mike Verdi has also indicated that Netflix is continuing to develop its video game offer by opening a dedicated studio in southern California. This new studio will be led by Chacko Sonny, former executive producer of the title Overwatchand will be the fifth of the platform.

According to our colleagues, Netflix currently has 14 games in development in its own studios, and currently has 35 games on the service. This includes titles based on Netflix’s hit series, like Stranger Things, but also original versions. The list is available at this address and the conditions to be met to access the service are as follows: a compatible device (a smartphone or tablet running Android 8.0 or later, iOS/iPadOS 15 or later), and a Netflix subscription asset.
