Netflix costs: subscription prices at a glance – and this is how you save

Netflix offers a wide range of – including exclusive – series and films. If you want to use the service, you have to take out a subscription and pay every month until the end of the subscription (see also: How to properly cancel Netflix). But what are the costs if you want to use Netflix? And is it cheaper? Here are the answers.

There are currently three different subscriptions to choose from in this country:

Save Netflix costs – that’s how it works

Netflix is ​​experimenting with new subscription prices from time to time. The different browsers then display different prices for the subscriptions depending on the time of day or platform. If you then strike, you will receive the respective subscription level at the specified price. In this way, you can quickly save one or two euros per month. Recently, however, such experiments have hardly taken place. If you can do without UHD, the “standard” subscription is often enough. Within a family or flat share, however, the limit to simultaneous use on a maximum of two devices can quickly become tight. With Netflix Premium, you can use the service on up to four devices at the same time.

Not really recommended: save Netflix costs with a VPN trick

Those desperate to save can consider the “VPN trick” when signing up for a Netflix subscription. In any case, there is a lot of discussion about this in Internet forums. The principle: In some countries, Netflix subscriptions cost significantly less. Via VPN you connect to the corresponding foreign IP address and then go to the Netflix login page. You may also need a suitable Netflix credit card for this country because a German credit card is not accepted.

In Argentina, for example, Netflix Premium costs only 939 Argentine pesos per month, which corresponds to the equivalent of just under 8 euros.

Very, very cheap

are the prices in Turkey. Here, users pay 26.99 Turkish lira (approx. 1.80 euros) per month for Netflix Basic, 40.99 Turkish lira (approx. 2.70 euros) for Netflix Standard and 54.99 Turkish lira (approx. 3.60 euros). euros) for Netflix Premium.

The best VPN services compared

In our opinion, the VPN trick is not really recommended. A Netflix subscription concluded in this way can also be used in Germany without a VPN, but with some Netflix content it can happen that there is no German dubbing and at most German subtitles. In addition, a lot of trickery – also with the Netflix support chat – is necessary to get a Turkish Netflix account, for example, as this thread at Mydealz.de shows. You also risk that the Netflix account created in this way will eventually be blocked.

It is less nerve-racking to share the cost of a Netflix account with like-minded people.

Student discount for Netflix

Students and pupils have to pay attention to every euro. The bad news: unlike Amazon Prime Video, Netflix doesn’t offer any student discounts. However: If you live in a flat share or with several people in a household, you can save money by not everyone in the household paying for their own Netflix subscription, but by sharing a Netflix account.

Please note, however, that Netflix can only be viewed on multiple devices at the same time with Netflix Standard and Netflix Premium. With Netflix Standard on up to two devices and with Netflix Premium on up to four devices at the same time. So if four of you share a Netflix Premium account, you only pay 4.50 euros per month instead of 17.99 euros. Sharing a Netflix account is not expressly permitted, but neither is it expressly prohibited.

Pay with Netflix gift cards

You can set up a Netflix account without providing any payment information. Then simply use Netflix gift cards to pay. These gift cards are available in stores or can be purchased here from Paypal in denominations of 25 euros, 50 euros, 100 euros or any desired amount.
