Netflix could still attack your wallet, it’s going to suck


Netflix may change its gaming offering a little, but that doesn’t please gamers who are worried about having to pay more. And obviously, that’s the firm’s plan.

Netflix has not always made people happy with the decisions it has made. The American giant has already increased the price of subscriptions, but it does not intend to stop there. Now, it is turning its attention to its gaming offering. The latter may undergo some changes, and that may hurt your wallet, but not only that. One thing is certain, many people will not agree with the planned measures.

Ads and in-app purchases soon in the Netflix Games offer?

According to the Wall Street Journal, the thinking heads at Netflix met to discuss another way to generate revenue for its gaming offering. In short, it means finding a way to make us spend more money, beyond just a subscription. So, this could happen through in-game microtransactions or through advertisements that play from time to time. However, the firm seemed to want to avoid this type of practice. But some clarifications need to be made.

First of all, you have to take this information with a grain of salt. The Wall Street Journal itself says that these are discussions, not actual changes. Another subject was also put on the table, that of paid games. Indeed, Netflix would consider offering more “sophisticated” titles in its catalog. The difference here is that you would have to heat up the credit card to have access to it. Needless to say, if these changes were to see the light of day, it will upset more than one person.

An offer that will develop further

In any case, the Netflix Games section will continue to develop as it should, regardless of the transformations that are looming. In December 2023, we learned that there were around ten games in the works in the studios belonging to the company. We particularly remember its acquisition of Night School Studio, behind the Oxenfree franchise, or Spry Fox to which we owe Cozy Grove.

We therefore see that Netflix wants to diversify its offering, but not only by developing games via its own studios. It will also welcome great additions throughout 2024. We will thus witness the arrival of Hades, which will be available exclusively on iOS, Dead Cells and even Death’s Door.
