Netflix: did you like The Song of the Wolf? Rediscover the first incisive political film written by the director

The film “Quai d’Orsay”, final achievement of the late Bertrand Tavernier, integrates today the catalog of the Netflix platform.

It was in 2013 that the political comedy, Quai d’Orsay, would be released on our screens. Ultimate achievement of the immense French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier, the feature film is the adaptation of the comic strip Quai d’Orsay, diplomatic chronicles by Christophe Blain and Antonin Baudry (under the pseudonym of Abel Lanzac), both co-authors of the screenplay in collaboration with the director from Lyon.

Worn by Thierry Lhermitte and Raphaël Personnaz, but also Niels Arestrup (awarded the César for Best Supporting Actor) and Anaïs Demoustier, Quai d’Orsay follows the adventures of Arthur Vlaminck, a young adviser appointed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to write the speeches of Alexandre Taillard de Worms, an ambitious and totally elusive minister.

Despite its wacky and sometimes even quirky side, Quai d’Orsay is however freely inspired by an authentic political figure; comics and film paint a twisted portrait of Dominique de Villepin, Minister of Foreign Affairs then Prime Minister during the five-year term of Jacques Chirac. The plot also follows as a red thread the writing, then the pronunciation of his famous speech in front of the UN against the military intervention in Iraq.

A true political film in form, and even more so in substance, Quai d’Orsay offers us a striking and original dive into the corridors of power, while painting a biting portrait of the former minister. A film-testament for Bertrand Tavernier (carried away by illness last March), but which will also have preceded the birth of a new talented filmmaker: Antonin Baudry, the director of Le Chant du Loup considered the best French action film of the last ten years!

Quai d’Orsay by Bertrand Tavernier and The song of the wolf by Antonin Baudry can be found now on the Netflix platform.
