Since November 2021, Netflix has deployed its gaming offer. Netflix’s first real foray into video games to contain the leak of its subscribers. And two new games are added at the beginning of February, including a title from Riot Games.

After Polish, Italian or even Spanish subscribers, Netflix Gaming – or Netflix Games in French – arrived in France on November 2, 2021.
Five games at first, because Netflix claimed to want “build a library of games that meets the desires of each and every one of you ». Then the offer quickly grew to already count 14 titles at the beginning of 2022 with the addition on February 1 of two games signed Riot Games (Hextech Mayhem) and Hyper Hippo ( Dungeon Dwarves).
The platform is now relying on mobile games to seduce its subscribers, Netflix explained to us at the time of launch. A first attempt to diversify its offer with content for all audiences and above all unpretentious games.
Despite the recruitment of Mike Verdu (ex-Electronic Arts and Facebook) in the summer, Netflix obviously does not intend to establish itself as a new video game player, but more as a versatile platform that will make you stay even longer at home by offering occupation for every moment of the day. In any case, this new service is nevertheless intended to be “ the beginning for us of a great gaming experience “.
How to Enjoy Netflix Games?
You obviously have to be a subscriber to Netflix and use a smartphone or tablet running Android or iOS, iPhone or iPad users having finally had to wait only a few more days to enjoy it. Those on Windows PC or Mac will still have to wait.
Just launch its Netflix application and a new Netflix Games space appears. This is where you will find the available games.
If you’re on a smartphone, everything takes place in the Games area. If you’re on a tablet, you can also select games from the Categories drop-down menu.
Choose the game you want and click it, then you are redirected to Google Play Store to download the games. Because we are not talking about cloud gaming here, or even streaming, but downloading. It will take space on your mobile device (but not much anyway). Bad news if you are not subscribed to the streaming service: you will not be able to play smart and download the games, except forStranger Things 3: The Game already available.
The games are accessible from all profiles of the same account and it is possible to play on several mobile devices. A message will appear if you reach the limit of authorized devices. All you have to do is deactivate one from the Netflix.com site to take control and add a new device.
What games are available?
The launch in France was done with ” first five gamesbefore seeing the offer quickly grow richer. And that should only get worse. At the end of January 2022, two months after its deployment, Netflix Games had accumulated 5.3 million downloads for its first 12 titles available.
Two other titles are added on February 1: Hextech Mayhem,a musical runner signed Riot Games ( League of Legends, Wild Rift) where your actions have explosive consequences, and Dungeon Dwarves ( Hyper Hippo), a mobile game that challenges you to explore dungeons and battle monsters to gauge your warrior skills.
But it won’t stop there. Asked about the subject last November, Netflix told us to work with many studios around the world and in particular the French Gameloft for future titles. The company has already dropped Night School Studio (Oxenfree, Afterparty, Next Stop Nowhere) into its hands to boost its offer.
In the meantime, the course of action continues to build around games more casual intended for an audience more family-oriented, we are told.
Stranger Things, the house star
No FPS in sight or AAA games, here the successful house license has been favored with Stranger Things: 1984 or Stranger Things 3: The Game. The first features a return to 1984 in an action-adventure game set in famous Hawkins locations. Follow Hopper and the kids into the Upside Down in this delightfully retro game where you’ll have to solve puzzles using each other’s strengths and their weapons.
The second is a beat ’em upfrom season 3 of the series: it has been available on consoles, PC and mobiles since its release in 2019. It plays the 16-bit pixel card in an aerial view. You can embody one of the 12 characters from the series (Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, Max, Hopper, Joyce, Jonathan, Nancy, Steve, Erica). You can choose to play solo or in local co-op. Between them, the games have accumulated more than 1.8 million downloads in two months.

Over time, Netflix has added games for car racing fans (Asphalt Xtreme), cute cats in match-3 (Knittens)or for lovers of puzzle games (Krispee Street).
The games are available in French if this is the language defined in your account preferences. Otherwise, they will switch to the chosen language. Some games do not require an internet connection and may be available offline.

How much does it cost ?
Since the official announcement of the project, Netflix assured that everything would be done “within its subscription, at no additional cost“. This is indeed the case and you keep your usual subscription, Netflix Games being akin to bonus content. In addition, as with Apple Arcade, no in-app purchases or advertising are present in the space or within the games.
What about security on Netflix Gaming?
If the games are mainly for all audiences, they may not be suitable for very young people. The platform’s parental control procedures also apply to the Games section. They are not available for Youth profiles. If a PIN has been set on a parent account to restrict access to certain content or adult profiles, it will also be applied to play.
