Entitled Quicksand, this mini-series tells us about the trial of a student called Maja (Hanna Ardéhn), nine months after a shooting broke out in a school in the richest suburb of Stockholm. If the young woman seems to have a complicated life, she is especially influenced by her boyfriend Sebastian (Felix Sandman), who hides dark secrets.
If An Almost Normal Family reveals the truth at the end of its story, Quicksand takes another approach: revealing from the start that Maja is guilty. The whole point of the series is to know how she got there, why she is responsible and above all to what extent she was manipulated.
In two temporalities – one at the time of the investigation and indictment and the other at the time of the beginnings of the toxic relationship between Maja and Sebastian – Quicksand succeeds in telling both a thrilling and tragic affair which upsets – as evidenced by episode 4 – and the portrait of a young woman overtaken by her demons and manipulated by those around her.
