Netflix: Henry Cavill gone, is this already the end of The Witcher universe?

The greatest uncertainty hangs over the future of “The Witcher” fantasy franchise, as Liam Hemsworth replaces Henry Cavill for the next two seasons. We take stock.

The departure of Henry Cavill marked the end of three seasons of ups and downs for The Witcher, marked by artistic disagreements between the former Superman and the teams of the Netflix series. But a new era is about to begin with Liam Hemsworth, who takes over the role of Geralt of Rivia.

If we thought the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books would get back on track for a while, the American giant recently put an end to its serial fiction since it was announced that the fifth season ordered will be the last.

The end of “The Witcher” universe on Netflix?

Despite this news, fans could hope for other projects in The Witcher universe on Netflix, given that there has already been the spin-off series The Witcher: Blood Origin and the animated film The Witcher: The Nightmare of the wolf.

But the future of The Witcher extended universe on Netflix seems very uncertain. Even if a new animated film, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, is expected this year on the platform, the American giant has canceled two other spin-offs, according to What’s on Netflix.

A long-standing project, titled The Rats, which follows a group of street urchins, presented in the finale of season 3 of The Witcher, before their meeting with Ciri, has no more to the leaders of Netflix.

The cast included Dolph Lundgren, Ben Radcliffe, Christelle Elwin, Fabian McCallum, Aggy K. Adams, Juliette Alexandra, Connor Crawford, Deoudone van der Merwe, Morgan Santo and Stevel Marc and filming took place over two months in South Africa .

Netflix

Only a small part of this limited series was filmed and after seeing the first images, Netflix decided not to continue the project, nor to turn it into a film. But the platform could use the images as flashbacks in season 4 of The Witcher.

The other “The Witcher” project that was canceled was an untitled, no-synopsis spin-off aimed at a younger audience, a work for children.

Does this mean that Netflix is preparing to put an end to “The Witcher” universe? The cancellation of these two spin-offs and the end of the series after season 5 seem to confirm this hypothesis. Especially since the filming of the fourth and fifth seasons of the fiction with Liam Hemsworth will be done consecutively.

Barely arrived, Chris Hemsworth’s younger brother, who is training hard, will not have the leisure to enjoy his Witcher costume for too long since he will shoot all his episodes in a row, before already bidding him farewell .

The Witcher series is available on Netflix.
