Netflix adds Exploding Kittens to its catalog of video games. This card game supported by crowdfunding in 2015 has been offered since 2016 on Android and iOS. The SVOD site now includes it in its subscription.
The catalog of video games accessible through a Netflix account continues to expand. The subscription video on demand (SVOD) giant announces the arrival of four new titles for the month of May 2022. And among them, we find the famous Exploding Kittens. The principle ? Playing with explosive kittens. This is literally the concept of the game.
Your mission is to do everything to prevent your kittens from ending up scattered all over the room. Of course, traps are hidden in the deck and you have to hope not to fall on them. To avoid the worst, there are special cards that can be played to avoid going up in smoke. But perhaps you will only be able to push back the fateful deadline a little…
A card game born from a Kickstarter, which became a video game
If you’ve been surfing the net, maybe you already know Exploding Kittens. It is basically a card game, invented by Matthew Inman, author of the humorous and informative site The Oatmeal. The project saw the light of day in 2015 following a successful crowdfunding campaign, with a gain of 8.7 million dollars – it only asked for… 10,000.
A year later, the game was released on mobile, (Exploding Kittens is on iOS and can be found on Android). The game is more multiplayer oriented (as in the case of a card game), but there is also a single player game mode. The game is in English and is usually sold for 1.99 euros. But with a Netflix subscription, it is possible to play it for free.
It’s worth noting that the game will eventually feature an exclusive expansion pack of cards themed around the Netflix series which will be released in 2023. The mobile game meanwhile will be available via Netflix starting May 31. Three other games are also announced for May, all available today: dragon-up, Moonlighter and Townsmen – A Kingdom Rebuilt.
