“Joker” pulls out his red suit and his green locks to come and celebrate Christmas at your place! Mark your calendars, the feature film worn by Joaquin Phoenix will indeed be available on Netflix from December 23rd.

The film, which tells an original story never before seen on the big screen, focuses on the emblematic figure of Batman’s sworn enemy. He paints the portrait of Arthur Fleck, an uncompromising man despised by society.

A JOKER LIKE NO OTHER
Political and relevant, the 2019 psychological thriller from Todd Phillips – who also co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver – offers a much different take on the iconic DC Comics villain, painting a portrait of a man in search of ‘identify.
Set in 1981, Joker follows Arthur Fleck, an aspiring comedic failed clown whose gradual loss to mental illness and nihilism inspires a violent countercultural revolution against the wealthy in a decaying Gotham City.
Moving away from his comic version, Phillips and Silver’s Joker is inspired by character studies from the 1970s and Martin Scorsese’s films, particularly Taxi Driver (1976) and The King of Comedy (1982), which was initially attached to the project as a producer. Thus, the film gives life to a Joker – Arthur Fleck – more human than ever, anchored in our reality and gradually losing his footing, embodied by a demented and possessed Joaquin Phoenix.

The standalone feature, which loosely adapts plot elements from Batman: The Killing Joke (1988), premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion before being released. hitting theaters in the United States soon after. Critics have thus consecrated it for its visual style, its musical score and its cinematography and the performance of its main actor. And the box office followed suit: grossing over $1 billion – the first R-rated film to do so – Joker set records and became the sixth highest-grossing film of 2019 when it was released in halls.
Winner of two Oscars – best actor for Joaquin Phoenix and best music – Joker is a visual shock and an intellectual experience: a spine-chilling combo to live urgently if you haven’t already.
While waiting for the release of his musical suite with Lady Gagatitled Joker: Madness for Twoscheduled for October 2024, Joker will therefore be available on Netflix from December 23, 2022.
