Netflix: new price increase in Europe

After the United States, it is Europe’s turn to see Netflix prices increase, with Ireland in the lead. How long will it take for other countries to follow suit?

In January, Netflix increased the price of its subscriptions in the United States, raising fears that it would ultimately impact on prices in the rest of the world. It is therefore not a big surprise to see this price increase arrive in Europe… but not yet in France for the moment.

Netflix price hike in Ireland

Deadline is reporting an immediate price hike for new Netflix subscribers in the UK and Ireland. Here are the outlines:

  • Basic subscription (1 screen): goes from 7.99 to 8.99 euros per month;
  • Standard subscription (HD 2 screens): goes from 12.99 to 14.99 euros per month;
  • Premium subscription (4K, 4 screens): goes from 17.99 to 20.99 euros per month.

Former subscribers have been notified that the price of their subscription will change within 30 days.

Note that unlike the United States, the price of the Basic subscription does not reach the psychological price of 10 euros, a price long enough to afford the Standard subscription. The Premium subscription, on the other hand, exceeds 20 euros.

What about France?

For now, no price increase has been announced for France. In addition, France has many more subscribers, which makes the maneuver a little more risky, and the prices are already higher. The Basic subscription is for example already at 8.99 euros. The Standard is at 13.49 euros, which reduces the potential increase by 50 cents.

Either way, don’t be fooled. 20 dollars in the United States, 21 euros in Ireland… the Premium subscription will surely not remain at 18 euros in France ad vitam aeternam. Get ready and tell your banker.
