And Jason Momoa drew the crowds! The film, which was first released in several Asian countries such as China and the Philippines, was a hit at the global box office. Exceeding studio expectations, Aquaman has grossed over $1 billion.
This makes it the most profitable DC Comics adaptation, surpassing the success of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises at the box office. The popularity of Aquaman even causes a sequel, which was not originally planned, to be planned. Titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is expected in theaters on December 20, 2023.
