One of the biggest films hitting theaters soon is Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, the ambitious sci-fi epic based on the Star Wars sequel project that the filmmaker scrapped. Snyder’s latest film, which will be available to stream on Netflix next week, has already gained some notoriety, earning him some of the worst reviews of his career thus far.

For those not yet familiar with Rebel Moon, Snyder’s latest film is a space opera adventure that chronicles a lone warrior’s attempts to rally the members of a peaceful farming colony against an evil galactic empire. The film marks Snyder’s second major collaboration with Netflix after Army of the Dead in 2021.

Zack Snyder collects one of the worst scores of his career

At the time of writing, Rebel Moon Part One – A Child of Fire has currently a 24% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 42 reviews. This is the second lowest score of Snyder’s career, surpassed only by Sucker Punch.

Snyder’s filmography is notoriously controversial, but the reception to the first chapter of Rebel Moon was overwhelmingly negative from the start. The film completely divided audiences, with some calling it a masterpiece, others considering it a total failure. Zack Snyder fans were quick to come to the director’s defense by denouncing the bad reviews.

This isn’t the first time Zack Snyder’s films have been criticized on Rotten Tomatoes. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice still holds 29%, and even some of his most successful films, like Zack Snyder’s Watchmen and Justice League, barely meet the “freshness” threshold. Obviously, reviews are only part of a larger equation, and we therefore advise you to watch the film if you want to form your own opinion.

As the title awkwardly suggests, Snyder’s new film is the first in a planned two-part franchise, with Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver releasing on April 19, 2024. Whether or not these bad reviews will stick remains to be seen. change the director’s plans.
