Netflix: the sequel to this video game adaptation rated 4.1 out of 5 is finally available on the platform!

The spin-off of the animated series “Castlevania” entitled “Castlevania: Nocturne” can be seen now on Netflix!

It is often said that video game adaptations are synonymous with disaster. But despite everything, there are also some examples of adaptations which are exceptions to this generalized observation.

And among these successful adaptations, it’s hard not to think of the animated series Castlevania broadcast on Netflix from 2017 to 2021, for a total of four seasons and 32 episodes.

This program is the adaptation of the video game Castlevania III: Curse of Dracula and its sequel Castlevania: Curse of Darknessboth published by the famous Japanese company Konami.

Set in the 19th century, the series follows the story of several heroes – a vampire hunter, a sorceress and a half-man, half-vampire warrior – united to thwart the demonic plans of Vlad Dracula Tepes, determined to eradicate the human race following the execution of his beloved for acts of witchcraft.

An anime loved by Netflix subscribers

The popularity of the Castlevania series can be explained both by the quality of its animation and more generally its artistic direction, for its memorable soundtrack, its convincing interpretations (in VO and in VF, let us emphasize) but also for its stylized and uncompromising violence.

With a viewer rating of 4.1 out of 5, Castlevania is unsurprisingly among the highest rated Netflix animated series on AlloCiné (but unsurprisingly, it is the Arcane series which dominates this ranking, with an average rating of 4.6 out of 5).

Success requires, the story of Castlevania obviously could not end after only four seasons. But it is in the form of a brand new series that the program is making its return, with the broadcast this Thursday, September 28 of an official spin-off, entitled Castlevania: Nocturne.

Although it takes place in the same universe, this new series is not strictly speaking a sequel to Castlevania, but rather a prequel. These are indeed new protagonists who play the main roles in this story taking place during the French Revolution, several decades before the plot of the original series.

Castlevania: Nocturne features Richter Belmont, an heir to the famous clan of which Trevor Belmont – the protagonist of Castlevania – was presented as the very last representative. Note that this new series is adapted from the video game Castlevania: Round of Blood and its sequel Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

The Castlevania series and its spin-off Castlevania: Nocturne can be found now on Netflix.
