The official trailer for Matilda, the Musical, based on Roald Dahl’s novel, has been released by Netflix. As reported by PureWow, in this new iteration of the classic tale, Emma Thompson lends her features to the sinister headmistress, Miss Agatha Legourdin. Finally, it is not really her real features that she lends since she appears totally transformed! Its striking appearance will make you blink twice…

The trailer begins with Matilda (Alisha Weir) planning to escape her terrible home life. From then on, we are transported to the Lamy-Noir school, where her kind teacher, Miss Candy (Lashana Lynch), discovers the young girl’s special abilities. Then it’s Miss Legourdin’s turn to appear, already taunting a student – ​​and Matilda’s turn to stand up to her, of course.

Iconic moments from the original film (and book) are featured throughout the trailer, like Miss Greedy swinging a little girl by the pigtails or forcing a student to eat an entire chocolate cake. After Nanny McPhee, Emma Thompson appears again unrecognizable but this time also terrifying!

In 1996, the adaptation of the classic by Roald Dahl, directed by Danny DeVito, with the young Mara Wilson in the title role, marked an entire generation. This new version is signed Matthew Warchus, who also brought the musical to Broadway.

So mark your calendars: Matilda the Musical will premiere in select theaters before making its official debut on Netflix on December 25th.
