Netflix trailer: fight and neon lights for Nicolas Winding Refn’s new series

The trailer for “Copenhagen Cowboy” invites you to explore the world of the Danish underworld. The new series, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, premieres January 5 on Netflix.

Although Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of Drive, is known for his characteristic use of neon lights in his productions, the Dane’s projects do not stop at a simple stylized image. This is highlighted by the new trailer for his Netflix series, Copenhagen Cowboy. Set for release in early January, the six-part story centers on a revenge-seeking woman who delves into the criminal underworld of Denmark.

The new Copenhagen Cowboy trailer references recurring figures from Winding Refn’s oeuvre, including unusual imagery, unconventional themes, and a touch of the supernatural. The series will tell a revenge story that plays on the narrative with unclear timelines, locations, and characters.

This neon noir series follows an enigmatic young heroine, Miu (Angela Bundalovic). After a life of servitude and about to make a new start, she crosses the disturbing underworld of Copenhagen. Seeking justice and revenge, she meets her nemesis, Rakel (Lola Corfixen), as they embark on an odyssey through the natural and the supernatural. The past ends up transforming and defining their future, as the two women discover that they are not alone, that there are many of them.

This series marks a return to his roots for Refn: it is the first project he has produced in his native country and therefore in Danish since he became known on the international scene of independent cinema. The director tells Deadline: “With Copenhagen Cowboy, I’m going back to my past to shape my future by creating a series, an expansion of my ever-changing alter-egos, now in the form of my young heroine, Miu.

Nicolas Winding Refn presented his series, selected this year at the Venice Film Festival. Copenhagen Cowboy will be on Netflix on January 5th.
