It is the most anticipated science fiction series on Netflix and for good reason, it is an adaptation of the first novel in a literary trilogy recognized in the industry. Written by Liu Cixin, The three-body problem describes humanity’s first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization. It is the first Asian novel to win the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 2014.

Great success in China, The Three-Body Problem has also met its international audience, after its translation into English, and has delighted the critics who compare the work to 2001: a space odyssey. For this large-scale transposition, Netflix has called on a duo who have already worked on a major series.

David Benioff and DB Weissthe showrunners of Game Of Throneshave therefore found their big science fiction project, which is part of their exclusive contract with the American platform. They team up with the screenwriter and producer Alexander Woo (True Blood) for this adaptation, produced by Ken Liu and Liu Cixin, also consultants.

The road is long for this project announced two years ago, but the platform was able to show some behind-the-scenes images of the series during the world event TUDUM. Between the sets, the filming phases and the revelation of the cast, the public was treated to a promising taste of what promises to be Netflix’s most ambitious SF series.

Among the lucky actors are Eiza González (Baby Driver), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), John Bradley, Liam Cunningham and Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones). The rest of the cast includes Tsai Chin, Jovan Adepo, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Saamer Usmani, Rosalind Chao, Ben Schnetzer and Eve Ridley.

The production of the Three-Body Problem has just finished and the teams are entering the post-production phase. We will therefore have to wait until 2023 before we can discover this ambitious, universal and epic series.
