Netherlands: Syrian sentenced to 12 years in prison for war crimes


THE HAGUE, Jan 22 (Reuters) – A Hague court on Monday sentenced a former member of a pro-Syrian government militia to 12 years in prison for war crimes, crimes against humanity, complicity in torture and unlawful arrest .

Mustafa A., 35, was prosecuted for his involvement in the arrest of a man in 2012 in Syria. The accused handed him over to the intelligence services of the Syrian Air Force, who imprisoned and tortured him.

According to the court, Mustafa A. was a senior member of the Liwa al-Quds (“Jerusalem Brigade”), a militia composed mainly of Palestinian refugees supporting the Syrian government in Syria, mainly in Aleppo province.
