Images of the “Apple Magic Charger” have been shared on the net. The opportunity to discover in detail a practical MagSafe charger… but which has never been launched by Apple.

Apple Magic Charger. This name means nothing to you ? It’s normal. This is a MagSafe charging accessory designed and tested by Apple, but unfortunately never made it to market. However, we discovered this week through images shared on Twitter by the account “TheBlueMister”, which specializes in rare or never-launched Apple devices. These publications subsequently prompted Asian collectors to share, still on Twitter, other images of the accessory.

A practical accessory… that you will not be able to buy

Specifically, these images are of the DVT versions (Design Validation Test) of the Magic Charger, advanced prototypes made by Apple for internal testing purposes before possible commercialization. Commercialization which in this case never took place.

Anyway, we discover an accessory in the form of a rubberized white MagSafe charger, centered in an anodized aluminum square with rounded edges. The central part can be unfolded like the Apple Watch charger on the MagSafe Duo. This design is also reminiscent of the Magnetic Charging Dock of Apple’s connected watches, now removed from the catalog.

On the back of this Magic Charger for iPhone, a soft non-slip plastic surface to allow the accessory to hold securely on a flat surface, once unfolded. The charger connects for the rest in USB-C to a wall block, thanks to a braided white cord similar to that of the latest MacBook Air.

A product too limited to be marketed?

Essentially designed for the iPhone, this MagSafe charging accessory also allows, once folded, to charge, for example, AirPods Pro with the MagSafe charging case.

Apple, however, would have nipped this Magic Charger in the bud due to the lack of versatility of its hinged concept. The latter allows you to charge an iPhone flat or in a horizontal position (ideal for refueling the iPhone while watching a movie), but not to do the same with the device in a vertical position. It is this limitation that would have deterred Apple from going further with this project.
